About the photograph:
February 2020. I’m on the beach in Mahabalipuram as part of my Indian Seaside project. Two riders are brushing their horses in the sea, struggling to properly clean their mounts. I begin a series of photographs. Then a powerful wave crashes straight into the flank of one of the horses, which is standing parallel to the swell.
I press the shutter and freeze the explosion of water. The splash is brutal, spectacular. The two boys seize the moment and let themselves be drenched by it.
