Coastal Indian Crows

No one really pays them much attention, yet Indian crows are permanent companions along India’s beaches and coastlines. From the tranquil shores of Mahabalipuram to the bustling waterfront of Mumbai, these birds accompany daily gestures, moments of abandon, and the slices of life that I photograph.

Often perched when not swooping through the air in dark flight, they methodically observe their surroundings, searching for food among scattered rubbish. Curious, watchful, and opportunistic, they are never far from street vendors, families enjoying the cool evening breeze, or fishermen mending their nets. Black, slender, and noisy, they punctuate countless moments of coastal life with their lively silhouettes. Their sharp cries form a strange melody; their constant movements create an invisible, poetic choreography—silently and discreetly bearing witness to the everyday soul of India’s shores.

Through my journeys and photographs, their continuous presence has evolved into a subtle, poetic narrative, reflecting a parallel everyday life alongside my Indian Seaside project.
